GIULIANO PANNUTI, SET DESIGNER: “FROM THE FIRST EMBRYONIC PHASE OF THE FILM WE FOCUSED WITH THE DIRECTOR ON A SERIES OF WORKS THAT NOW BELONG TO THE “UNFINISHED ”GENRE, TIMELESS, ABANDONED ARCHITECTURES IMMERSED IN SPECTACULAR LANDSCAPES. A FUTURE NEVER BORN AND ALREADY ABANDONED THAT GAVE LIFE TO OUR WORLD, GIVING IT A LEADING ROLE WITH A PRECISE IDENTITY. THIS METAPHYSICAL WORLD OF OURS HAS RESTORED DIGNITY TO ABANDONED AND LITTLE APPRECIATED STRUCTURES, EXTRAORDINARY LOCATIONS SELECTED IN SICILY AND EMILIA ROMAGNA, THE ABANDONED DAM, THE VIADUCTS, THE BRIDGES, ENDING UP IN A DISTILLERY THE SIZE OF A CITY ".

SOUNDTRACK

FOR THE MUSIC, I WANTED A SOUND A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL SOUNDTRACK, JUST AS THE WORLD OF THE FILM IS DIFFERENT. THEREFORE I INVOLVED "FISH MARKET", AN OPEN COLLECTIVE OF RESEARCHERS, A SPACE TO EXPLORE AND EXPERIENCE THE POSSIBILITIES OF SOUND, IMAGES, AND MORE GENERALLY OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION, BRINGING TOGETHER DIFFERENT LOOKS AND LISTENING, PRODUCTIONS, IMPROVISATIONS, AND SOUND, VISUAL OR LITERARY PROJECTS.

SOUND DESIGN

THE SOUND DESIGN OF THE FILM WAS A COMPLEX WORK AIMED AT BUILDING A DIFFERENT, ALIENATED, UNRECOGNIZABLE WORLD. WITH STUDIO MARINELLI, THE HISTORICAL STUDIO OF SERGIO LEONE'S FILMS AND WHICH STILL PRESERVES THE ORIGINAL SOUND EFFECTS, WE HAVE TRIED TO USE EXISTING SOUNDS, ALIENATING THEM FROM THE VISUAL CONTEXT. IN THE FOREST, FOR EXAMPLE, THE NOISES WE HEAR ARE THE VOICES OF WHALES, IN THE ABANDONED ENVIRONMENTS THE SOUNDS OF THE CREAKING OF OLD WESTERNS AND THE RUMBLE OF BOATS, TO THIS IS ADDED THE WIND, ANOTHER GREAT PROTAGONIST. AN EVER-CHANGING WIND, WHICH PULLS INCESSANTLY AND CONSTANTLY WITH DIFFERENT VOLUMES AND HEIGHTS. ALL SOUND EFFECTS WERE COMPLEMENTED BY NOISES RECORDED LIVE OR HANDCRAFTED AND RECREATED IN THE STUDIO.

COSTUMES

ELEONORA RELLA, COSTUME DESIGNER: “RE-READING THE SCRIPT WE BECAME MORE AND MORE CONVINCED TO GO IN THE DIRECTION OF SIMPLICITY, USING WORN, AGED, DYED GARMENTS, PERHAPS RECONSTRUCTED OR PATCHED UP WITH SCRAPS OF CLOTHING OR RECYCLED MATERIALS. WE STARTED FROM A CURRENT, REAL, AND FUNCTIONAL CLOTHING BASE, AVOIDING THAT THE INTERVENTIONS WERE DECORATIVE OR AESTHETIC. WE HAVE THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING THAT COULD REMAIN IN THE WORLD IF WE DRIFTED AWAY, ESPECIALLY SCRAPS AND GARBAGE LIKE PLASTIC BAGS AND BOTTLES, WHICH COULD COVER EXISTING GARMENTS TO SHIELD OR WATERPROOF THEM. THE ONLY CONCESSION WAS TO KEEP THE COLOR, IN PARTICULAR THE BRIGHT RED, TORN AND BROKEN AS IN BURRI'S PLASTICS. "
